Shorts Lifts is a leading South African designer and manufacturer of a broad range of lifts, designed to meet vertical transportation needs in private homes, industrial buildings, office blocks or in any public access buildings where the convenience of a lift is essential. Our product line includes residential and public lifts, passenger lifts, dumb waiters, Home wheelchair lifts, disabled lifts, goods hoists and stair lifts.

Shorts Lifts was established in the early 1960’s as a new product line of an electrical contracting business. It imported Dumb Waiters and Goods Hoists from Shorts Lifts U.K. When Shorts Lifts was taken over by Pickerings in 1968, permission was given to the Wesek brothers to use the name Shorts Lifts and the company was founded.

In 1975 it started to manufacture previously imported Dumb Waiters and Goods Hoists locally. The basic layout of these products has remained unchanged although the operating controls and the aesthetics have been modernised.

The company thereafter developed the Simple Lift and Access lift for disabled persons and imported Chair and Platform Stair Lifts. In 2003 Shorts identified the need for a mid-range Passenger unit for the ever-increasing low-rise multi-storey buildings that were being developed. The lift designs were further enhanced in 2005 to include imported automatic doors, VVVF drives and full OSH Act and SANS 1545 Part 1/4/5 lift compliance.

In the year 2010 our company commenced a business relationship with Mac Puarsa of Seville, Spain (MP Lifts), for the design and supply of a wide range of standard and custom designed Passenger, Goods/Passenger elevators and Home lifts, which has provided Shorts Lifts with the capability to compete successfully with the locally based International Elevator companies and with the imported Asian elevator products. This relationship with MP Lifts has matured into a successful mutually beneficial business partnership.

Today Shorts Lifts has a fully equipped Technical department with AutoCAD drawing equipment, staffed with engineers and skilled draughtsman.

The management of the company includes a Professional Engineer and a Registered Lift Inspector. The Company has a healthy pipeline of University educated Technicians supporting the experienced lifts technicians and installers.
